Another Successful Ladies Night Out

We had a great turnout on Oct. 11th for the 3rd Annual Ladies Night Out Event at Lindale Mall.  Gems introduced their newest gift to cancer patients as participants were instructed on how to make beaded bookmarks!

Over 60 people showed up to make "gifts of hope" for cancer patients as they receive treatment here in Cedar Rapids. 
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made this such a fun event.

What Us About? Kid's Program

 

This program is designed for children ages 5-12 who have a cancer diagnosis in their family. The aim is to build upon the child's strengths and enhance his/her ability to cope with the stress related to their loved one's cancer diagnosis.

The next session will be held on Saturday,  October 15th from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm. 

The program will be located at the new Sister Mary Lawrence Comunity Center
                                                                    402 - 6th St. SE,  Cedar Rapids.
                                                                    Conference Room #1 on the first floor of the building

Lunch is provided, along with fun activities and kids yoga. This group is led by licensed social workers and a trained yoga instructor.

The clock is ticking!  Join our GEMS OF HOPE Team for the 2011 Especially for You Breast Cancer Race, Sunday Oct. 2.
 
There are some exciting changes this year, the biggest being easy ONLINE REGISTRATION at http://www.especiallyforyourace.org/  Simply click on the link, then "Registration"; "Join a Team"; scroll down to GEMS OF HOPE and click on "Join".  Follow the directions from there and you will be an official GEMS OF HOPE Team member!  There are also new EFY items for purchase as well. 

** IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A GEMS OF HOPE TEAM LOGO SHIRT, YOU MUST REGISTER BY MIDNIGHT AUGUST 28TH - no exceptions/additions will be made after this date and time!  All registrations after this date will receive a plain race shirt and will not be on the roster for our team.  You can still walk/run with us but you won't have the  GEMS OF HOPE logo shirt.

The American Cancer Society of Linn County has named Rebecca Jacobs 2011 Honorary Chair of The Relay for Life.  Rebecca serves on our Board of Directors for Gems of Hope.  Congratulations Rebecca!
